WCCS Students Honored at 2012 Academic Awards Ceremony

Wallace Community College Selma held its annual Honors Ceremony on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 7:00 pm in the Earl Goodwin Theatre. This ceremony recognizes the academic achievements of students in a number of organizations. The following awards were presented: Academic Achievement, Academic Excellence, All-Alabama Academic Team Members, Most Outstanding Academic Athletes, Phi Theta Kappa; Alpha Eta Tau Chapter, and Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges.

A total of 185 students were recognized for academic achievement and 51 participated in the ceremony. Mrs. Althelstein Johnson; WCCS English Instructor provided the keynote address to the honorees.

Participants: Linda Acoff, Chaqueena Black, Alicia Blackmon, Charles Brewer, Jerry Cobb, Lori Ann Combs, Clifton Coston, Corey Davis, Tommie Davis, Jr., Arbanee Dean, Tashianna Dickerson, Demetria Frye, Stephanie Fuller, Antonio Hamilton, Tanika Harrison, Alicia Hatch, Dalrion Hill, Montrell Holley, Damon Hooks, Demetrius Hooks, Brittany Hyde, Amanda Jackson, Dante Jackson, Jasmine Jackson, Terra Jackson, Tyra Jackson, Kenneth Jenkins, Tanya Jones, Willera Jones, Jonathan Ladson, Bonita Lewis, Trevor Miree, Morco Moseley, Veronica Motley, Nakia Myers, Eric Parr, Wayne Peeples, Tasha Pope, Belinda Reynolds, Ovetta Rudolph, Percy Sanders, Zachery Sanders, Shane Skinner, Whitley Small, Janice Smith, Debra Spicer, Ashley Tolbert, Clinton Turner, Sherita Wells, Lucille Williams and Wendy Wilson.

The All-Alabama Team is selected using the following criteria: A student must have completed 18 semester credit hours in pursuit of an associate degree, have a cumulative GPA of 3.25, show evidence of involvement in high school, college, and community activities, show evidence of public service activities, and show evidence of sharing their academic and technical skills with others. These students will receive a $1,000 scholarship for being selected as All-Alabama Academic Team Members. The recipients of this award were Jennifer Wyatt Nichols and Debra Shenika Spicer.

The Most Outstanding Academic Athlete awards were presented to Arbanee Dean and Montrell Holley. The recipients of this award are a male and female athlete who have completed at least 25 hours, have a high grade point average, and display outstanding sportsmanship and character of all WCCS participating athletes.
