SELMA (April 23, 2007) — Wallace Community College Selma in conjunction with Alabama State University would like to invite the community to attend an Open House Celebration hosted by AMSTI (Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative) on Friday, April 27, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The AMSTI site is located at Craig Industrial Park adjacent to the Wallace Community College Selma Adult Education Building.

The Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative, AMSTI, an Alabama Department of Education initiative designed to improve math and science teaching statewide, was established by a blue ribbon committee composed of K-12 educators, higher education representatives, and business leaders. The research-based initiative provides three basic services: professional development, equipment and materials, and on-site support.

AMSTI provides professional development, on site support, and math and science resources. The WCCS-ASU site serves the teachers of seven school districts: Autauga County, Dallas County, Lowndes County, Montgomery County, Perry County, Selma City, and Wilcox County. SI 2007 will involve four hundred fifty teachers and thirty five math, science, and administrative trainers.

Utilizing the philosophy of AMSTI will inspire, encourage, and make a major impact on the lives of the students, according to Jane Walker, the project
