Miss Alabama Agriculture Crowned

MOBILE, Ala. — Karen Elizabeth Grimes of Dallas County was crowned Miss Alabama Agriculture during the closing session of the 85th annual Alabama Farmers Federation meeting in Mobile Monday night. Miss Grimes is the 18-year-old daughter of Bill and Karen Grimes of Selma and is a freshman at Wallace Community College in Selma.

As the winner, she received a $2,000 scholarship and the use of a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer for the next year. Miss Grimes will represent Alfa Farmers at a variety of events during the coming year where she will promote the state's largest industry – agriculture. The pageant is sponsored by the Federation's Young Farmers Division.

Jessica Leigh Pittman of Autauga County won first alternate in the pageant and received $750 cash. She is the 17-year-old daughter of Lee and Gina Pittman of Prattville and is a senior at Autauga Academy.

Grace Landers of Colbert County was second alternate and the recipient of $500. She is the 21-year-old daughter of Macon and Karen Landers of Leighton and attends the University of South Alabama.

Third alternate and the winner of $300 was Amanda Renea Motes, 20, who represented Cullman County. She is the daughter of Rex and Patricia Motes of Cullman and attends Athens State University.

Addie Elizabeth Pickett of Russellville represented Franklin and was selected as Miss Congeniality by the 45 other contestants who participated in the pageant.
