Selma, Al. — At the 2006 Summer Institute, sixty schools from the Central Alabama Regional Inservice Center were well represented by an administrator, a lead math teacher, and a lead science teacher. Also, in attendance were Alabama State University STEM Faculty, superintendents, and directors of instruction from the LEAs.

Wallace Community College Selma and Alabama State University provided ongoing resources and support. Much of the success of the institute must be attributed to the twenty-five volunteers from Tuskegee, Montgomery, and Selma.

As gratifying as it was having a well attended and informative Summer Institute, we know that more must be done if we plan to raise the mathematical and science skills of all students to world-class levels.

The math and science specialists have conducted initial visits to all the AMSTI LAMST schools. Furthermore, the site has collaborated with agencies to sponsor AMSTI learning activities and awareness displays, speak at conferences, and conduct principals' informational meetings. The site staff is continuing to improve through ongoing professional development.

The WCCS-ASU AMSTI LAMST site staff welcomes all visits. Please contact any of the following:

Jane Walker, Director

Angie Baldwin, Science Specialist

DeDe Inge, Math Specialist

Derron Hatcher, Materials Center Manager
