SELMA (March 10, 2014) — Wallace Community College Selma held its annual Honors Ceremony on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 7:00 pm in the Earl Goodwin Theatre. This ceremony recognizes the academic achievements of students in a number of organizations. The following awards were presented: Academic Achievement, Academic Excellence, All-Alabama Academic Team Members, Most Outstanding Academic Athletes, Phi Theta Kappa; Alpha Eta Tau Chapter, and Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. A total of 204 students were recognized for academic achievement and 51 participated in the ceremony.
Participants: Linda Acoff, Caleb Autrey, Casey Baggett, Shannon Baldwin, DeWarren Baldwin, Christopher Beacom, Nicole Brooks, Margaret Brown, Susan Burton, Quanteon Clay, Lashelle Cobb, Brendan Collins, Chantel Crum, Josephine Curtis, Stuart Dawson, Gregory Dunkin, Danny Eldridge Sr., Carl Evans, Tawanda Frison, Angela Fulgham, Nivory Gordon III, Achandra Harrell, Sara Hogue, Kenyette Hrobowski, Zaccheus Jackson, Mazell James, Chiquita Jones, Creshaunda Jones, Roosevelt Jones, Willera Jones, Ashir Kimbrough, Jermaine Kimbrough, Demarius King, Anthony Langdon, Terrell Marshall, Chasity Minter, Bernadette Moore, Marcus Moore, Chiquetta Murray, Leslie Neely, Raymond Purdie, Denzel Smiley, Joshua Smith, Michelle Spears, Michael Spivey Jr., Rodney Thomas, Laura Tidmore, Tammy Till, Katelin Wallin, Hailey Wilkinson, and Sherronda Wilson.
The All-Alabama Team is selected using the following criteria: A student must have completed 18 semester credit hours in pursuit of an associate degree, have a cumulative GPA of 3.25, show evidence of involvement in high school, college, and community activities, show evidence of public service activities, and show evidence of sharing their academic and technical skills with others. These students will receive a $1,000 scholarship for being selected as All-Alabama Academic Team Members. The recipients of this award were Michael R. Spivey, Jr. and Laura A. Tidmore.
The Most Outstanding Academic Athlete awards were presented to Takeela Mixon and Stuart Dawson. The recipients of this award are a male and female athlete who have completed at least 25 hours, have a high grade point average, and display outstanding sportsmanship and character of all WCCS participating athletes.
